Koressa Malcolm

Koressa is a life long lover of all things equine. She started the EMES as a retirement plan. As a former school psychologist she utilizes skills she developed working with children to apply them to interactions with the horses and donkeys.

Dr. Joseph Malcolm
CFO, DIRECTOR
Dr. Joseph Malcolm grew up in Highland County Virginia and became the county’s only veterinarian for many years. He is the resident veterinarian for EMES. In addition to the routine medical needs of the minis, Dr. Joe provides desensitization training to help the horses and donkeys cooperate with hoof trims and medical treatments.

Roy Malcolm
CTO, DIRECTOR
Roy is a buildings and information management engineer for DPR in Dallas Texas. He grew up on the Malcolm’s farm and was active in 4-H and FFA horse clubs and showmanship. Roy assists staff at EMES with communication and technology needs.

Rachel Malcolm Cardwell
DIRECTOR
Rachel currently works as a Library Associate just north of Seattle, WA where she runs a teen outreach program. She grew up working around animals of all sizes on her family’s farm and at the Stonewall Veterinary Clinic. She has worked as a dog handler and as a veterinary assistant. Rachel helps with communications for EMES and pulls together our newsletter each year. She enjoys spending time cuddling her two dogs and her cat.

Joey Branner
DIRECTOR
Joey is a retired physical education teacher. In addition to serving as an EMES board member, Joey volunteers a day each week to help care for the minis. She transports supplies from the valley on her trips to the farm. Joey completes some of the site visits of potential adopters’ farms.

Corena Huffman
DIRECTOR
Corena is a Licensed Veterinary Technician with a life long interest in animal welfare. She is the president and founder of the Highland County Humane Society. Corena has worked at a variety of veterinary establishments including mixed animal and emergency care. She assists with dental care and medical treatments at EMES.

Jenny Schott
DIRECTOR
Jenny is a founding member of EMES. As a retired IT specialist she provides guidance on technology needs of the sanctuary. Jenny and her husband Tom reconfigured our former dairy barn during the Covid shutdowns to provide stall spaces for the mini horses and donkeys.

Cammie Tutwiler
DIRECTOR
Cammie is the Member Relations Administrator for the Shenandoah Vally Electric Cooperative. Her love of animals makes her known to her co-workers as “the person to call” if there’s a loose dog or a spider that needs to be saved. Cammie helps with public relations and communications advice for EMES.

Abby Hylton
DIRECTOR
Abby is an avid horsewoman. She grew up riding and showing horses and has become a trainer and farrier. Her current passion is her two very large draft horses. Abby helps with higher level training needs and specialized hoof trims for the EMES minis.
